My First Crochet Project
I had tried crocheting a couple times before, and never really got anywhere. I think a lot of that had to do with the fact that I seemed to make so little progress. I would stitch for hours and not feel like I’d gotten anywhere. It seems the “easy” stitches and patterns go really slowly. I finally switched from a Medium (4) gauge yarn to the Homespun Bulky (5) gauge of yarn and a size K crochet needle. I think plastic needles are much easier to work with than metal needles because the tip is much pointier. It now takes me about 30 minutes per row which is 77 inches across.
It took me about an hour standing in Micheal’s to decide on a color. This is “Regency.” I love the Homespun yard. It is so incredibly soft!
I’ve definitely learned that I should be counting my stitches. The hardest part for me has been turning my work.
My troublesome kitties have done surprisingly well. So far, they are intrigued by the yarn and have enjoyed some blanket cuddles, but there have been no attacks.
If only she had opposable thumbs, maybe she could help me.
